The Barnard Professional Firefighters Association (BPFFA) is comprised of eleven career firefighters who are proud members of the International Association of Firefighters and the NYS Professional Firefighters Association. The Barnard Fire District has had full-time Barnard Fire District Logo staff in place since 1928, however it was not until 2000 that the career firefighters organized to become known as the Barnard Professional Firefighters Association – IAFF Local #4030.

The Barnard Fire District employs the Barnard Professional Firefighters. As a combination volunteer/career district, we strive to provide the best possible fire, EMS, and rescue service to our community. We do so by staffing a minimum of 1 Engine and 1 Rescue Squad 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. NYS Map These companies are first due to all emergency requests in the southeast quadrant of Greece, NY and protects approximately 25,000 citizens in this four square mile area. This section of Greece is bordered by the City of Rochester to the South & East, and the three other fire districts in the Town of Greece to the North and West.

The Barnard Fire District is the oldest section of the Town of Greece, primarily composed of single and multiple occupancy dwellings. We respond to approximately 3,400 requests for service a year. 80% of these requests are for Emergency Medical Services while the remaining 20% are comprised of fire suppression, rescue, public assistance and hazardous conditions. The membership of the BPFFA L-4030 currently includes 9 career Firefighter/Paramedics who provide primary advanced life support service for the community.  If fact, the Barnard Fire District and the members of the BPFFA are the first, and remain the only, fire-based Paramedic Unit in Monroe County, NY. The remaining 2 members are Firefighter/EMTs as well. Our response time averages 4 minutes or less to emergency incidents.

The members of Local 4030 work 24-hour shifts followed by 72 hours off. Usual staffing consists of three union firefighters and one career lieutenant with a minimum of one NYS certified Paramedic. During weekday hours, the career Captain (MTO) and career Assistant Chief are available and responding to incidents as well. At full staffing, the four man groups staff a Firefighter and Lieutnant on Engine Company 224 and 2 firefighters (atleast one being a Paramedic) on Squad 226.
Over the last 5 years, the career staff of the Barnard Fire District has doubled in size, but despite our overwhelming growth, we remain one of the smaller career groups in the Monroe County area. We are however, all proud to be members of a much larger brotherhood.
